Actually, the first day of Bridges is kind of hard, but then you get to know everyone and you don’t feel homesick anymore. Your family can visit two Sundays during the four weeks and you get to go home for the weekend in the middle of the four weeks.
At first it may be a little weird not to have a cell phone, but soon you do not miss it at all. We have hall phones that are available every night to call home and your family members can reach you at any time through the counselors or director. In addition to the nightly activities, we have movie nights, hall dance parties, games, spades tournaments, etc… There is so much to do all of the time that you do not miss cell phones or television..
The classes are taught by the very best teachers in Greenville County. They spend a lot of time developing exciting hands on activities that introduce you to new concepts, ideas, or information. Our goal is to enrich your learning experience while supporting what you learn in school. The Bridges students always say that the classes and teachers are the best part of Bridges to a Brighter Future.
Bridges to a Brighter Future works with the high school guidance counselors in Greenville County to select students. The selection process begins in November of each year and ends March 1. Students must be nominated by a teacher or guidance counselor in their school and they must meet three criteria:
If a student is nominated by a teacher and meet the three criteria, students will then complete an application and have an interview at Furman University.
